Columbia’s Executive Master of Science in Technology Management is a unique program that seeks to imbue students with a deep understanding of the role technology plays in an organization. While it is by design distanced from Columbia’s excellent business school, that doesn’t mean it’s jammed up an ivory tower: each student is paired with a mentor who is a CIO or similar of a sizable company in the New York area.
My thesis project was a detailed business plan for an online community for self-career management. Job hunting is often declared to itself be a job, but it’s one for which the worker gets little training and no supervision. eMentor proposed to offer tools to formulate a personal career strategy, coach and guide a person through a professional job hunt and create a supportive environment of fellow job-seekers and career development experts.
